Suppression Systems with NOVEC 1230, FK5-1-12

For automatic suppression in areas requiring the use of a clean extinguishing agent with a small environmental footprint, we recommend the NOVEC1230 Fire Suppression System (in accordance with EN15004, NFPA 2001), with EN approval. The installation is certified as an overall system.

The automatic fire suppression system is manufactured in accordance with existing legislation and international specifications and, in particular:
• PD 15
• Standard ΕΝ 54
• Standard EN15004
• Standard EN12094

The automatic fire suppression system is comprised of two main components. The extinguishing detection system and the network of cylinders, pipes or devices that constitute the extinguishing agent.

For the NOVEC 1230 automatic fire suppression systems to operate (actuate), an electric actuator shall be appropriately fitted to the quick-action valve of each cylinder of the independent suppression system. When the control panel instructs the electric actuator to operate, it mechanically opens the quick-action valve and releases the extinguishant. The remaining cylinders of the system (where there is an array of cylinders) will open with pneumatic actuators via an appropriate pneumatic control line.
The cylinders are fastened to secure them against any kickback from the release of the extinguishant. The cylinders shall be easy to move and the system shall be able to control the electric and pneumatic actuation during inspections without the release of extinguishant.

➤ NOVEC1230 Storage Cylinders (Tanks)

NOVEC 1230 will be stored in liquid form in the appropriate cylinders or an array of cylinders, in accordance with the calculations.
The cylinders shall be cylindrical and suitable for wall mounting or floor placement and shall be heavy duty (pressure test 69 bar, bursting pressure 138 bar) to withstand the pressure of NOVEC12030 and the partial pressure of nitrogen at the maximum expected temperature during use.
The cylinders shall be filled with NOVEC 1230 with a fill density ranging from 0.641 to 1.121 kg/lt, while pressure inside the cylinders will be regulated with the use of dry nitrogen at 360 (psi) at a temperature of 21°C.
Each cylinder will be labelled in accordance with international standards, stating the quantity of NOVEC 1230 content and the system’s working pressure.
The extinguishant shall comply with the European standards EN12095, EN15004.

Every NOVEC 1230 cylinder shall be equipped with the following instruments or components:
a) NOVEC 1230 fill valve both for the initial fill and for the refill during the six-monthly installation inspections, provided the NOVEC 1230 loss exceeds 5%.
b) Flexible hose that connects the cylinder to the NOVEC 1230 piping network and the check valve (only for an array of 2 or more cylinders).
c) Appropriately sized non-return valve for releasing the quantity of NOVEC 1230 in 10 sec.
d) Contact pressure gauge which will notify the local and main panel of pressure loss.
e) High pressure relief valve.
f) Electric and manual actuator (one for each cylinder or array of cylinders) with the necessary piping for successive pneumatic actuation of an array of cylinders.

➤ Piping network

The NOVEC 1230 piping networks shall be made of galvanised seamless steel pipes in accordance with DIN 2448 or preferably ASTM-A-106, GRADE A Schedule 40, in accordance with European standards, and shall be suitable for a NOVEC 1230 installation with a storage pressure of at least 42 bar.
In addition, particular attention must be given to the support of the pipes so that they can receive the forces that are developed when the system is in operation.
Calculations due to complex flow phenomena that will be presented in the NOVEC 1230 pipes were made with the help of a PC and are attached. In any event, they shall comply with EN 12094, EN15004 and the calculation program shall also bear the relevant certification.

➤ NOVEC 1230 Discharge Nozzles
The NOVEC 1230 discharge nozzles are made of aluminium or metal alloy suitable for the intended working pressure. The size of the nozzles shall be suitable for discharging the entire quantity of NOVEC 1230 in at least 10 sec.
